The first lion from the famous Patio de Los Leones in the Alhambra in Granada has been removed for restoration.

The first lion from the famous Patio de Los Leones in the Alhambra in Granada has been removed for restoration.

The restoration process will take two years, cost 550,000 € and of the 12 lions, 11 will get attention, given that one has already been restored.

Each lion will be personally diagnosed and then treated individually.

The remaining lions will be removed on Monday and work will also be carried out to maintain the hydraulic water supply to the fountain.

Alhambra Director, María del Mar Villafrancaz, has said the repair of the lions is the ‘most important restoration project at the site over the next few years’ and also explained that while the restoration was being carried out no replica lions would be put in their place.
