The importance of the Alhambra and the Generalife of Granada and their influence on the surrounding environment has been recognized throughout history.

Thus, by Order of the Regency of the Kingdom of February 10, 1870, confirmed by the Royal Order of July 21, 1872, and expanded by the Royal Order of June 11, 1896, it is declared a national, historical and artistic monument, the Alcázar de la Alhambra, in Granada, with its gardens and accessory rooms, including the Puerta Elvira.

Later, in the twentieth century, by Decree of July 27, 1943, Historical Gardens were declared, the one formed by the group of the Alhambra and the one formed by the Generalife.

More recently, at the UNESCO Convention, held in Buenos Aires between October 29 and November 2, 1984, the World Heritage Committee proceeded to officially inscribe the Alhambra and Generalife of Granada on the List of said Heritage.

This means, above all, the international commitment that Spain acquires to conserve and protect this Monumental Complex and its surroundings in a particularly careful way, an issue that falls both to the State Administration and to the Administration of the Junta de Andalucía, by virtue of the aforementioned international commitment.
